OUR WORLD - Pastels
In 1999, many scandals came to light in Belgium, of dioxin chicken, fed with car oil, and of PCB in the food chains.
The newspaper showed so many pictures of dead chicken in containers that it almost became normal. People would react less and less. I felt an urge to do something to remind us that beyond these pictures are serious ecological issues.
At first I reworked the newspaper pictures with pastels, and used them as a sketch for a bigger artwork. I still was studying at the academy, and at the end of the year, the jury suggested me to skip this last step. Instead they advised me to reproduce the pictures and directly work on them. This is was the beginning of this series.
I used recycled paper to reproduce the quality of the journal paper.
I was awarded three prizes for it.
